Grants Awarded to Advance Racial Equity
Burton D. Morgan Foundation Trustees and Staff are deeply concerned about the pervasive implications of institutional and structural racism that continue to plague our nation. The Board of Trustees convened a special meeting on June 30 to discuss grant recommendations in support of organizations working to counter racial injustice, economic disparities, and systemic racism, both nationally and regionally.
The Board approved a total of $250,000 to the following organizations through proactively awarded grants:
Boys and Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio - $50,000 for program support in Cleveland and Akron
Fathers and Sons of Northeast Ohio - $10,000 for fatherhood programs
National Underground Railroad Freedom Center - $30,000 for operating support
Northeast Ohio Black Health Coalition - $10,000 to serve as a Presenting Sponsor of the No More Tears and Love Letter to You program, for the Babies & Brunch program, and for operating support
Project GRAD Akron - $20,000 for kindergarten readiness efforts and scholarships for students in Akron Public Schools
The Bail Project - $30,000 for operating support for Cleveland programs
United Negro College Fund - $40,000 for scholarships to students in Northeast Ohio
Williams Challenge - $10,000 for the Man2Man Fatherhood Building Program
Racial Equity & Diversity Awareness Initiative - Morgan Foundation will provide grants of up to $2,000 to at least twenty-five area nonprofit organizations for diversity, equity, and inclusion training for staff and board members. Current grantees will be prioritized for funding. Program and application details will be announced soon.
Morgan Foundation maintains a longstanding commitment to inclusive innovation and entrepreneurship as a means for all entrepreneurs to create and grow businesses that yield sustainable livelihoods, and this array of racial equity grants is in keeping with that mission-driven priority. The Foundation is a learning organization and will apply lessons learned from these grants to enhance our work creating entrepreneurial opportunities for all.
